Financial Goal Planner

Plan any major goal with inflation-adjusted future cost and required monthly savings.

About the goal planner

The goal planner converts a future financial goal into an inflation-adjusted target and the monthly SIP required to reach it. It accounts for today's goal cost, years available, inflation, expected return, and existing savings.

Use it for Indian household goals such as education, wedding expenses, house down payment, car purchase, travel, or any custom milestone. It helps separate the goal's future cost from the investment amount needed each month.

The projection is an estimate, not a guarantee. Inflation and returns rarely move in straight lines, so revisit the plan as costs, timelines, market assumptions, or existing savings change.

How do I use the goal planner?

  1. Choose the goal type: Select a preset such as wedding, education, home, car, or travel, or use the custom amount already shown.
  2. Enter today's goal amount: Use what the goal would cost today, not what you think it will cost in the future. The calculator applies inflation separately.
  3. Set years to goal: Enter the number of full years available. Shorter timelines sharply increase the monthly SIP required.
  4. Set inflation and return assumptions: Use a realistic inflation rate for the goal category and a conservative expected return for the investment mix you intend to use.
  5. Add existing savings: Enter savings already earmarked for the goal. These are compounded at the expected return and reduce the required SIP.
  6. Review the funding gap: Check the inflation-adjusted goal, remaining goal, monthly SIP, total SIP contribution, and year-wise progress.

How is the required monthly SIP calculated?

Required monthly SIP = remaining goal × monthly return / (((1 + monthly return)^months - 1) × (1 + monthly return))

If expected return is zero, the calculator divides the remaining goal evenly across the number of months. If existing savings already cover the future goal, required SIP is zero.
