About the capital gains tax calculator
Capital gains tax in India depends less on how much you made than on what you sold and how long you held it. The same ₹4 lakh gain is taxed at 20% on a listed share sold after nine months, at 12.5% after thirteen, and at your slab rate on a debt fund no matter when you sell. This calculator applies the FY 2026-27 rules for the asset you pick and shows the tax, the cess, and what actually reaches your bank account.
The rates come from the Finance (No. 2) Act 2024, which reset holding periods and rates from 23 July 2024, and are unchanged for FY 2026-27 under the Income-tax Act 2025. Section names such as 111A, 112A and 112 are kept in the results because that is what contract notes, capital gains statements and your CA still use.
Use it before you sell, not after. Seeing that a sale three weeks earlier costs an extra ₹47,000 in tax is the kind of thing worth knowing while the decision is still open. The result is an estimate for a single sale and does not replace a return computation, so confirm the final number with a chartered accountant.
